In one of the most highly anticipated matchups in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Tampa Bay Lightning and Boston Bruins have been living up to the hype early on.
Boston came out of the gate strong with a 3-2 win in the first game, but Tampa Bay battled back in overtime in Game 2 to win 4-3 to even the series up with the same number of goals scored between the two sides.
The only real separator thus far has been that Tampa Bay has taken 21 more shots than Boston so far, with the Lightning having put 77 shots on net to Boston’s 56.
Last time out, Tampa Bay did what it accomplished twice in its first-round series against Columbus: finish the game in overtime. Though it wasn’t quite a fifth overtime win that it had in Game 1 of its series with the Blue Jackets, Tampa Bay kept the game close late and edged out Boston with a goal 4:40 into overtime by Ondrej Palat.
While Tampa Bay has poured on the shots thus far in the matchup, Boston has made the most of its chances. On Tuesday, the Bruins made three of 25 shots to just four of 40 from the Lightning. Brad Marchand has continued to be one of the leaders for the team as he scored a pair of goals in the Game 2 effort.
