Series defending champion Jamie Chadwick (Veloce Racing) will start the final two races of the W Series season from the front row as she battles for another title at the Circuit of The Americas.

It was a frenetic qualifying in Texas, in which the drivers’ best time determines the starting grid for the seventh race of the season later in the afternoon and their second best time determines the starting grid for the last race of the season on Sunday.

With a session-best lap time of 2 Minutes 05.663 seconds from Abbi Pulling (PUMA W Series Team, pictured above), her best Chadwick achieved the first pole position of her W Series career by 0.07 seconds on only her third race weekend with the series. Chadwick’s second best time of 2: 05.713 minutes puts her on pole position for race two, when she is back in the front row of Pulling, the youngest driver on the grid this weekend.

“I climbed out of the car thinking I was going to throw up which is just the adrenaline! It’s the first pole position of my career and what a place to do that. It’s great, ”said Pulling happily. “I go to race weekends with high expectations, but this weekend I tried not to think about it and keep everything in mind and this is a good way for me to deal with things. I’ve focused on the most important points, like brake references, and it seems to be working, keeping it super simple.

“I’m confident about the race this afternoon, especially after this performance. I know I’m good at maintaining a tire over a long stint, as I’ve done throughout my British Formula 4 season and the two W-Series races I’ve driven so far this year , have also brought me good experiences. I may not be as experienced as some of the people around me, but I have a good idea of what I have to do. ”

Sarah Moore (Scuderia W) will start from the second row in both races and will be there in the first race Teammate Belen Garcia, who currently occupies the eighth and final automatic qualification place in the championship standings for the 2022 season of the W-Series. She will start the second race of the weekend from sixth on the grid. Title contenders Emma Kimilainen (Ecurie W), Marta Garcia (PUMA W Series Team) and Beitske Visser (M. Forbes Motorsport) start in the top 7 in both races.

Chadwick is tied with Alice Powell (Racing X) at the top of the championship standings before the one-two at COTA at the weekend. Powell leads her compatriot with one more race win than Chadwick this season (three to two wins), and the former will start the final two races of the season from 10th and 9th respectively.

“I really had problems with that first set of tires, so I felt like I had to pull it out of my pocket at the end, ”says Chadwick. “I didn’t have quite enough to beat Abbi, but tomorrow I have pole for the second race, that’s the main thing. It’s brutal out there so it’s really hard to predict where the setup of the car will go. I don’t think we made the best decision on the first set of tires, but then we made it on the second set. The most important thing for the championship is to be ahead of Alice. I will take today as a first step and then concentrate on tomorrow. ”

The W-Series races in COTA will be broadcast on Saturday and Sunday evenings at 9:00 pm. ET on BeINSPORTS.
