BEIJING, China, May 26 – Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the Africa Day reception in Beijing on Tuesday, saying China and Africa should work together to create a new situation in bilateral cooperation.
On behalf of the Chinese government, Wang Yi congratulated the African envoys in China and the African countries and their peoples. Wang said Africa Day is an important day for the African people to seek independence and strengthen unity.
He emphasized that Africa Day is also a common holiday for China and Africa. Strengthening unity and cooperation with African countries is the constant priority of Chinese diplomacy. China and Africa fight side by side in the great struggle for national independence and the preservation of national dignity and support each other on issues that affect each other’s core interests and concerns.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, he said China and Africa helped each other overcome difficulties together. China is the largest trading partner for Africa for the twelfth year in a row. The cooperation between China and Africa within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative has deepened and become more effective.
On global affairs, China and Africa support each other, he said. « We hold up the banner of multilateralism and together cast a voice of justice against the politicization of the epidemic, against racial discrimination and against foreign interference. »
He made four proposals to create a new situation in cooperation between China and Africa. He urged both sides to make the next China-Africa Cooperation Forum (FOCAC) meeting a success, to work together to tackle the COVID-19 epidemic quickly, to steadily promote the development of practical cooperation, and to increase coordination strengthen in international affairs.
Martin Mpana, Cameroon’s Ambassador to China and Dean of the African Diplomatic Corps in China, said Africa and China should jointly host the FOCAC meeting and send a strong message to the international community that Africa and China will unite, to promote fairness, justice and justice in peaceful cooperation in the world.
