The Sunshine Coast will come together over the weekend to honor the men and women who risk their lives as Anzac Day services are held across the area.
Prime Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk announced that public events would go on as usual after a COVID-19 horror in March.
Last year, residents commemorated Anzac Day like never before as virus restrictions forced the cancellation of several marches and church services.
Candles were lit from driveways and the sound of the bugle was played over phones, but this year people can pay their respects as usual.
Some events will not take place on Sunday due to the recent Brisbane outbreak due to insufficient time to make appropriate preparations as per previous guidelines.
These include the popular Dawn Service from the Mooloolaba Surf Life Saving Club on Mooloolaba Beach and the RSL Sub Branch Service from Palmwoods and District in town.
The daily has listed all of the services that are running as normal, including business closings on Sunday and holidays on Monday below.
11:00 am – Main service begins at the Korean Veterans War Memorial near the corner of Alexandra Parade and Buderim Avenue
8:45 am – All service workers gather at Coochin Creek Co-op on Simpson Street, and schools and community groups gather near Target at the end of the Beerwah Marketplace parking lot for March. The march is down Peachester Road, left on Turner Street, and then into Turner Park to the cenotaph
10 a.m. – The main service starts and runs until around 11 a.m. After the service there will be morning tea under the marquee in Turner Park. All are welcome
Turner Park can accommodate 5400 people according to the rule « one person per 2 square meters ». COVID registration is recommended, but not mandatory. All service members and invited guests must register and one person per community group or school is asked to submit their participation via email. A QR code is available for scanning in four places. Anyone wishing to lay a wreath or reserve a seat must email [email protected] by April 24th. For those unable to attend, the service will be broadcast live by a local church
1:00 p.m. – The zoo is broadcasting a service on its YouTube channel here via livestream. It takes place in the Mount Franklin Crocoseum and runs until around 2 p.m.
8.15am – Veterans form on the oval of Buderim Mountain State School within the memorial gates across from Middy’s, Main Street
5 a.m. – The service begins at Kings Beach Amphitheater on De Vene Avenue. Seats are limited to 1,500 people and veterans are given priority seating
6.30am – Rifle Breakfast at Caloundra RSL, West Terrace. Tickets can be bought at the RSL before April 25th
9:00 am – March begins at the Kmart parking lot in the Stockland Shopping Center on Bowman Road and ends at the Caloundra RSL Memorial Garden
5.30am – Dawn Service begins at RSL, David Low Way, followed by breakfast and two at the club
Further information: There is no main service at the RSL this year. The number of participants in the RSL is limited due to COVID-19 restrictions
4.55am – The service begins at the War Memorial Cenotaph on Diamond Street. A firearms breakfast follows at Cooroy RSL, Maple Street
7.30am – Main service begins at Eumundi Amphitheater on Upper Main Camp Road, followed by BBQ breakfast
Free off-street parking is available from 7:00 in the Eumundi Markets car park on Napier Road. Participants are asked to register their participation for COVID-19 purposes here
6:00 a.m. – Dawn service begins at the cenotaph of the information center in Settlers Rotary Park on Reed Street
6.30 a.m. – Rifle breakfast in the club. Bookings are highly recommended due to COVID-19 restrictions
10.30am – Those involved in the march move onto the lawn across from Pacific Boulevard and the Weema Street roundabout
No COVID-19 check-in is required, except for guests entering the surf club. The Dawn Service will be streamed live and the link will be available on the RSL website and Facebook page
4.27am – Dawn Service begins at the RSL Park Cenotaph near Landsborough Station on Cribb Street
11 a.m. – two and crown and anchor at the Maroochy RSL. The general public can join from 1 p.m.
4.28am – Morning service begins at the RSL Maleny’s cenotaph on Bunya Street, followed by a breakfast of gunshots
10.15am – March begins at Cooke Park on the corner of Maple Street and Fig Street
10:45 am – Main service begins at the RSL Maleny Cenotaph on Bunya Street, followed by lunch and traditional games at RSL Maleny Memorial Hall
5.30am – Dawn Service begins in the park, followed by a gun breakfast at the Mudjimba RSL Sub Branch on Cottonwood Street
10.30am – Gather at the corner of Coolibah Street and Mudjimba Beach Road for the Veterans March
There will be an invitation-only veterans lunch at the branch. COVID-19 restrictions limit the event to veterans and their partners. It will be a first, best dressed system
5.15am – Servants and former members march from Ann Street to the Wall of Remembrance, Quota Park, Mathew Street
5.26am – Dawn service begins, then guests march to the front of the Nambour RSL Club to end
6 a.m. – Breakfast in the RSL Club until 8.30 a.m. The number of participants is limited and booking is strongly recommended. Tickets are $ 6 each
There is no main service this year. The RSL will open at 11.30am for lunch, dinner and live entertainment
The buses start in Tewantin at 10 a.m. and in Noosaville at 10.30 a.m. and run all day. Live entertainment starts at 12 noon at the RSL and the Diggers’ Bar opens at 3 p.m.
5.30am: The service begins in Woombye Memorial Park at the end of Blackall Street, followed by a gun breakfast
11:00 am – Main service begins at the Yandina Cenotaph on Stevens Street, followed by lunch at Yandina-Eumundi RSL on North Street
The service will also be streamed live to those unable to participate on the branch’s Facebook page and YouTube channel
In Queensland, businesses must be in one of two categories to trade Anzac Day: exempt businesses or independent businesses.
Exempt stores that can trade throughout the day include a range of stores, from fish shops, pharmacies, beauty services to gas stations.
Independent trades cannot trade until after 1pm on Anzac day. All other shops must remain closed.
RSL Australia has encouraged residents to light dawn from 6 a.m. when they cannot attend a church service. Alternatively, you can support veterans by donating money for 2021 Anzac Appeal here.
