According to the United States Geological Survey, a preliminary 3.5 magnitude earthquake occurred near Gilroy early Friday morning.
The quake hit at 3:45 a.m. and was 2.7 miles north-northwest of Aromas, 5.3 miles east of Watsonville and 7.6 miles southwest of Gilroy, the USGS announced.
