The three-hour Saturday morning experience is basically a tradition amongst fans of the sport and the university hosting Kirk Heirbstreit, Lee Corso, Rece Davis, Desmond Howard, Maria Taylor, David Pollack and Chris Fallica makes an entire event of the occasion. Having the GameDay crew on your school’s campus or covering your matchup sets the stage for Saturdays biggest game.
Next Saturday, all eyes will be on the Miami versus Louisville matchup. ESPN announced Saturday that the primetime ACC matchup will be the game of the week.
This marks the 22nd time Miami has been featured on College GameDay. Most recently, the Hurricanes matchup with Florida to open the 2019 college football season received honor.
But the most memorable experience was during UM’s 2017 campaign when they hosted No. 3 Notre Dame and the GameDay set was on Miami’s campus. Hundreds filled the Coral Gables campus to take in the experience in-person before driving up to Hard Rock Stadium and witnessing one of the biggest wins in recent history.
Miami dominated the Fighting Irish 41-8 while keeping them scoreless in three different quarters. Miami moved to 9-0 on the season and jumped to the No. 3 team in the nation. It was the highest of highs for the UM football program over the last decade.
The Hurricanes will take on the Cardinals to open ACC play after winning their season opener 31-14 against UAB. In last year’s matchup with the Cardinals, Miami came away with a 52-27 victory in what was their most explosive offensive performance of the year.
The good news for Miami? Five of the seven recipients of scores from that matchup are returning. Wide receivers Mike Harley and Dee Wiggins each caught two touchdowns a piece while averaging 19.3 and 28.3 yards per reception. Tight end Will Mallory brought one in too with Brevin Jordan sidelined due to injury.
This will be the Hurricanes first trip to Cardinal Stadium since 2014 when then true freshman quarterback Brad Kaaya started his first game for UM.
