Coronation Street’s Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) made a big decision about his secret son Sam in tonight’s episodes, telling his ex-girlfriend Natasha Blakeman (Rachel Leskovac) that he wants to be involved in the boy’s life.
Natasha was last seen in Weatherfield back in 2010, after a tumultuous relationship with Nick that saw her secretly have an abortion after falling pregnant, before later lying about still being pregnant in an attempt to win Nick back.
They couple ended up getting engaged, but Nick’s suspicious mum Gail (Helen Worth) uncovered the truth about Natasha’s ‘pregnancy’, after which the couple broke up and Natasha moved away.
A chance encounter with Natasha at the hospital last week left Nick with suspicions that Natasha might be hiding a secret after he overheard her talking to a doctor about her nine-year-old son and being cagey about the boy’s father.
In tonight’s (September 14) episodes, a suspicious Nick trawled through Natasha’s social media accounts and found photos of her son, Sam.
He soon came to the conclusion that Sam is his own child and phoned Natasha, announcing that he knows she secretly gave birth to his son after they split 10 years ago. A shocked Natasha quickly hung up on Nick but she later had a change of heart and turned up at his flat to speak to him.
While she berated Nick for ‘spying’ on her and Sam and initially denied that Nick was the father, Natasha ultimately confessed the truth to her ex, telling him that he had indeed fathered Sam but told him: « That’s where your contribution ended. »
Later, Natasha insisted that, as Nick now knows the truth about his son, it’s only right that Sam knows too, but Nick asked Natasha to hold off on telling him until he finds the right time to speak to his partner Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson).
Natasha agreed but warned him: « Don’t you dare let Sam down. If you want a relationship with him it needs to be for keeps. You commit to him properly or you don’t see him at all. »
Unfortunately it doesn’t look like a good time will arise soon for Nick to speak to Leanne, as she faced anguish at the hospital with Oliver after Nick and Natasha’s meeting.
The doctor had earlier told Leanne and Oliver’s dad Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) that they were going to reduce Oliver’s sedation and try to remove his breathing tube, but this sadly didn’t go well.
Leanne and Steve were told that Oliver’s seizures are beyond the doctors’ control and that they’d have to increase the sedation once again, explaining that life support is now the only thing keeping him alive, leaving the whole family devastated.
However, Leanne announced that she won’t give up on her son and will do whatever it takes to help him recover, leaving Nick with no choice but to hold back on telling her about Sam.
