THE Crown’s Imelda Staunton is « terrified » to be the last actress to play Queen Elizabeth in the hit Netflix drama

Staunton, 64, takes the reins as British monarch from Oscar-winning Olivia Colman and will play the Queen for the last two seasons of The Crown

As if playing one of the world’s most famous and powerful women weren’t intimidating enough, Staunton admitted that she felt « the pressure from all angles »

The Oscar-nominated actress said taking over from Claire Foy and Colman, who played Queen Elizabeth in the show’s first four seasons, was a lot of pressure

Another stressful part of playing such an iconic role was playing someone people knew so well

“I am two amazing actresses but one amazing human being,” Staunton told Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes on This Morning

« She is so in a lot of our lives that we know what she looks like and sounds, of course I have to be like her as much as I can but also tell a story and the story of her day »

The Harry Potter actress said that while she relied on historical images of the Queen, she was « excited » to portray the more private moments of the Royal Family

« We all have so many images of the Queen, but the strength of The Crown has been to step into those private lives and create, » she explained

« I won’t start filming until next July but I’m working on it now listening to her watching her

« I am very excited and terrified, but I can’t wait to take over and move on »

The show’s bosses confirmed in July that Staunton will take the crown from Colman for the show’s final two seasons

In a tweet from the official Netflix account, writer / creator Peter Morgan said, “As we began to discuss the storylines for Series 5, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the wealth and the complexity of the story, we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons «

The official Netflix Twitter account tweeted this exciting news, writing: « News from the palace: we can confirm that there will be a sixth (and final) season of @ TheCrownNetflix, in addition to the five previously announced! »  »

He went on to conclude, « So to sum up, we’ll have one more season with Queen Olivia Colman, before she passes the crown to Imelda Staunton We’re only halfway there! Lovely! «

The Crown only recently wrapped up its season four shoot at the start of the coronavirus outbreak in a desperate attempt to « fix the problems »
