Follow all the action live as Crystal Palace welcome Southampton to Selhurst Park on the opening day of the Premier League season.
Roy Hodgson’s side finished in a comfortable 14th position last season, however, the Eagles did endure a dire run of form following the restart, winning just one game. They will be boosted, though, by the signings of playmaker Eberechi Eze and striker Michy Batshuayi.
Southampton, meanwhile, ended last season in a great vein of form, with manager Ralph Hasenhuttl awarded a new long-term contract after a rocky start at St Mary’s. The Saints have added two defenders, Kyle Walker-Peters and Mohammad Salisu, to their squad. Follow all the action live below:
72 mins: Danny Ings wins a free kick over on the left side of the pitch, close to the box. James Ward-Prowse takes the set piece and goes for goal but narrowly puts it over the bar.
66 mins: Smallbone and McCarthy clash in the middle of the pitch and the Crystal Palace man wins the free kick. He fires it into the far side of the box and Kouyate jumps over Adams to win the ball and fouls him in the process.
63 mins: Big chance squandered by Palace. Schlupp squeezes up to the byline and squares the ball into the box. Ayew and Zaha come flying into the middle but the ball is too far in front of Ayew for him to tap it in and Vestergaard clears the danger before it reaches Zaha.
60 mins: Smallbone is a threat on the right for the Saints today, his cross is a threat and Danny Ings squeezes a shot off but it’s charged down. Nathan Redmond then scuffs one wide.
54 mins: Guaita denies Che Adams! The ball comes into the box from the left wing, Stephens heads it down and Adams shoots. He hits it well but Guaita makes a good save low down.
51 mins: Or is it? Jon Moss is told to check the screen after VAR has checked the decision. The referee does so and changes his mind. Walker-Peters’ foot was high but he only clipped Mitchell and Jon Moss lowers his decision to just a yellow card. Walker-Peters and Southampton breathe a sigh of relief.
50 mins: RED CARD! Kyle Walker-Peters is off! The ball is bouncing around and Mitchell has possession. Walker-Peters goes in for the tackle with a high foot and he connects with Mitchell’s left foot.
48 mins: Early chance for Nathan Redmond. Danny Ings runs the ball to the edge of the box and passes it to Che Adams. Adams passes it along the line to Redmond who shoots and forces Guaita into a save.
Crystal Palace are unbeaten in 21 games when they’ve scored first. They’ve got the opening goal at Selhurst Park and have 45 minutes to hold on to that lead.
