Comment une ancienne caissière de banque a-t-elle réussi à convaincre la légende de la NFL Randy Moss d’investir dans son restaurant ? Tout d’abord, elle l’a contacté sur Instagram.

Chick-A-Boom founder Brittany Tolliferreo ultimately sold Randy Moss on her fried chicken tenders. He will attend her restaurant's ribbon-cutting in Southwest Philadelphia.

Randy Moss invests in Chick-A-Boom chicken-and-waffle restaurants

Former NFL star Randy Moss has invested in Chick-A-Boom, a chicken-and-waffle restaurant chain founded by Brittany Tolliferreo. Tolliferreo reached out to Moss through direct messages on Instagram after he liked one of her sponsored restaurant posts. They had several Zoom calls, and Moss eventually visited the restaurant, tasted the food, and loved it. Now, Moss is a partner in the business and will attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Chick-A-Boom drive-through location in Southwest Philadelphia. Tolliferreo and Moss plan to expand the chain, with three new restaurants in West Virginia and concessions on college campuses.

From bank teller to restaurant owner

Tolliferreo, a mother of two, was working as a bank teller in 2019 but felt unfulfilled. She decided to start her own business and opened Chick-A-Boom with a small investment of $12,000. The restaurant gained popularity for its unique fried-chicken sandwiches, which contain two jumbo tenders instead of the usual breasts or thighs. Tolliferreo’s goal is to create generational wealth and support other Black- and family-owned businesses. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, Chick-A-Boom has thrived and now has a drive-through location and a dining room in Southwest Philadelphia.

A unique dining experience

Chick-A-Boom sets itself apart from typical fast-food restaurants by offering made-to-order food and a variety of flavors and sauces. The restaurant uses black cardboard boxes lined with foil to keep the food hot during takeout. Tolliferreo and her partner, Kirk Hightower, also sell branded canned drinks called Boom Juice and Sky2O Water. They plan to expand their drink sales to local supermarkets and national retailers. In the future, Chick-A-Boom aims to add salads and wraps to the menu but will continue to focus on their signature fried-chicken sandwiches.
