Scott Clark, a 59-year-old runner from Summerside, will be participating in the 20th running of the Blue Nose Marathon in Halifax on Sunday. Clark has completed 80 marathons since he started running them 25 years ago. He has posted times below two hours, 50 minutes at the Blue Nose on three occasions, finishing second, third, and third respectively. Clark has also competed in the Johnny Miles and has run marathons in Florida, Utah, and Quebec. In April, he raced in the Boston Marathon for the 10th time, posting a 3:24:43.
Clark’s first Blue Nose Marathon was cold, windy, and wet, and he was inexperienced. He ran his personal best at that time, but his shoe came untied during the race, and it was so cold that he couldn’t tie it. He asked a lady at the side of the road to knot up his shoes, and she did. Clark has faced various injuries and ailments that forced him to race in the half-marathon on four occasions. The coronavirus pandemic cancelled the in-person edition of the 2020 Blue Nose, moving it to a virtual-only race, and forced the 2021 event to November.
Clark said he now runs for the fitness aspect, but at last year’s Blue Nose, he still finished eighth overall in the full marathon. He has registered for a 60K trail run in Golden, B.C., on the weekend following his 60th birthday. Clark said he enjoys the Blue Nose and knew he had to make it to 20 and hit that milestone.
