Morgan State Lady Bears Fall to UMES in MEAC Tournament
The Morgan State Lady Bears lost their second game of the MEAC Tournament to UMES, ending their hopes of making it to the Conference Championship game for the third consecutive year. The Lady Bears came into the game as heavy favorites, having dominated UMES 17-0 in their last encounter. However, the game did not go as planned for Morgan State.
A Game of Two Halves
The Lady Bears had a much better start to the game, with their bats starting hot and seeming like a vintage Morgan softball performance. However, UMES woke up in the top of the third inning and scored their first run of the game. Morgan State answered quickly, with Fletcher doubling deep to center field and driving in Ewell. Paz then drove in another run on a deep sacrifice fly, giving Morgan a 2-1 advantage in the bottom of the third. However, what happened next was unexpected, with UMES scoring nine runs in the inning and putting the game out of reach for the Lady Bears.
A Disappointing End to the Season
The Lady Bears fought back valiantly, scoring five more runs through RBI singles from Fletcher and Paz in the bottom of the fifth. However, it was not enough to overcome UMES’ lead, and the game ended with a score of 14-7. For seniors Paz, Hamilton, Thomas, Fletcher, and Nunez, this was their final opportunity to make history in the MEAC, but unfortunately, they fell short. The Lady Bears will look to learn from this experience and come back stronger next season.
