ITV’s new drama Des focuses on serial killer Dennis Nilsen whose belongings – including a poem about Fred and Rose West – is on display at Littledean Jail in Gloucestershire

Serial killer Dennis Nilsen’s belongings are on display in a museum and includes a poem he wrote about the notorious criminals Fred and Rose West.

Mr Nilsen murdered at least 12 men in London between 1978 and 1983 and his arrest and subsequent trial is depicted in ITV’s new drama Des.

The three-part series was filmed in Shepton Mallet and stars Doctor Who and Broadchurch star David Tennant and airs tonight (Monday, September 14).

And some of Mr Nilsen’s belongings, including clothes, handwritten notes and poems are on display in Littledean Jail in Cinderford, Gloucestershire.

Andy Jones is the owner of Littledean Jail in the Forest of Dean which is home to his collection of curiosities which ranges from Nazi memorabilia, death camp uniforms and serial killers’ possessions – including Gloucester’s Fred and Rose West.

Among the items is one particularly extraordinary poem that Mr Nilsen wrote about Fred and Rose West.

It appears to be typed on a typewriter and is signed by Mr Nilsen and a plaque on the framed poem suggests that it was written while he was in Whitemoor Prison.

Other items on display that belonged to Mr Nilsen include several handwritten letters and artwork as well as a poem about Queen star Freddie Mercury.

There is also a bomber jacket on display which owner Andy is Nilsen’s ‘once treasured bomber jacket.’ A placard underneath the jacket reads: « This is Dennis Nilsen’s much loved, well worn and treasured, genuine World War II flying jacket. He had taken this into the local dry cleaners shortly before his arrest, at 9pm on the 9th of February 1983. »

The first episode of Des airs on ITV on Monday, September 14 at 9pm with the second episode appearing on Tuesday, September 15 at 9pm and the final episode on Wednesday, September 16.
