The tight-knit group of friends from northwest Sydney were unaware of their win until an official from the Lott contacted the syndicate leader.
“It’s amazing. There’s seven of us in it. We’ve had this syndicate for about two-and-a-half years. It’s paid off! That’s about $90,000 each!”
The private syndicate held one of the eight division one winning entries across the country in Saturday Lotto draw 4085 on Saturday, September 12, 2020. Each entry won a division one prize of more than $620,000.
This week’s Powerball has reached a whopping $60 million jackpot after last week’s draw failed to secure a winner.
There was $40 million up for grabs last Thursday and while no one picked up the division one prize, a total of 1,377,927 prizes worth more than $24.46 million were won in divisions two to nine.
The Powerball prize has been climbing for the past three draws after no entry held the seven winning numbers and all-important Powerball number needed to take the division one prize.
Seven division two winners were tantalisingly close to becoming overnight multi-millionaires, with their entries holding all numbers except for the Powerball number.
So far this year, Powerball has crowned eight division one winners who have pocketed more than $300 million in prize money. This tally includes two winners who each won $80 million.
“Last year, Powerball climbed to some dizzying heights and delivered some breathtaking moments, including Australia’s biggest ever lottery jackpot of $150 million,” The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said.
“After there were no division one winners tonight, the jackpot jumps to $60 million and could well be on its way to the top once again.”
So far this year, Powerball has crowned eight division one winners who have pocketed more than $300 million in prize money.
