Follow all the action as West Bromwich Albion welcome Leicester City to the Hawthorns on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.
Slaven Bilic’s side secured automatic promotion last season and have completed the signing of winger Grady Diangana from West Ham.
Leicester narrowly missed out on the top four after a dip in form post-lockdown, however, Brendan Rodgers’ first full season in charge at the club can still be considered a great success. Follow all the action live below:
9 mins: Robinson makes a good run into the box and collects a well timed through ball. He squares it across the six-yard box but none of his teammates are able to get on the end of the pass.
6 mins: Leicester have seen a fair amount of the ball but they’ve mostly been finding their feet, trying to put a few passes together. Ndidi miscues a back pass and puts it out for a West Brom corner. It’s whipped into the near post and Vardy heads it clear.
3 mins: O’Shea switches the play out to the right side and Furlong brings the pass down. He plays it up to Diangana who nudges it into the box and shoots but the offside flag goes up against him.
Kick off: There was a slight delay to the start due to a loose bit of netting. It’s fixed and West Brom get the match started, kicking it up to the left wing and sending it out for a Leicester throw in.
Okay here we go, the teams head out onto the pitch, separately of course, due to the coronavirus protocols. Leicester come out first and await West Brom. Kick off is next…
10 minutes to go before kick off. Who’s winning this one? Leicester are favourites, they’ve got a top six finish last season, Jamie Vardy in form against West Brom, and the fact that the home side doesn’t like to win this fixture on their side. Can West Brom cause an upset and prove they belong in the Premier League?
It’s glorious at the Hawthorns today, West Brom putting in the final prep before their first game back in the Prem.
West Brom boss, Slaven Bilic, wants his team to stay in the Premier League for a while. He’s backing his players to prove the doubters wrong. He said:
« We don’t want to compete as a Championship side who is going to try and do something in the Premier League. We are going to compete as a very confident side that expects to stay in the league for a long time.
« People are tipping West Brom to go down. It’s great to be in that situation, in a sense that ‘let’s show them, let’s show them that they’re all wrong.' »
In the last eight Premier League meetings between West Brom and Leicester, the side playing at home has never won. There have been two draws from the home team and six losses.
The only Premier League fixture with more games without home team wins is Bournemouth vs Watford with 10.
