The Premier League season starts today but Manchester United won’t be involved until the second round of fixtures. This came as a result of their involvement in the delayed Europa League but they will now face Aston Villa in a friendly match ahead of the new campaign.
Fans can watch the action live on MUTV and the channel can be found on Sky and Virgin.
However, the match will not be shown live, with MUTV instead showing the full 90 minutes at 10pm tonight.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer views the friendly with Villa as a key part of their preparations for the new season.
« We’ll give the others minutes against Villa so they can all start on a decent level because it’s going to be a long season.
« The result is not going to matter at all, the performance and fitness work are going to be important. »
Friendly matches can sometimes lack intensity but former United and Villa striker Dion Dublin is still expecting a « high-quality » encounter.
“It’s so close to the season, I would imagine they have to play close to the team they’re going to play on the first day of the new campaign.
“They need to see how everything works so it does make for a very interesting game.
« Obviously, there are no punters in the stadium, of course, but it should be a high-quality game, which is great for the players.
“They know what the speed of the game is and what quality they will be facing.
« Whoever plays United, it’s their biggest game of the season, as players want to raise their game and stand out as an individual.”
