Tehoka Nanticoke’s Albany lacrosse career – equally exciting and enigmatic – has come to an end, according to a tweet from Times Union writer Mark Singelais. The senior attacker from Six Nations, Ontario was the Great Danes’ top scorer in five games with 19 goals and eight assists.
Singelais posted the news on Twitter Wednesday, then added a screenshot of a statement he made from John Reilly, Albany’s assistant director of media relations.
« Nanticoke was fired due to internal team problems, » the statement said. “Marr and the program wish Nanticoke all the best. There will be no further comment at this time. “
ESPN content associate Chris Jastrzembski tweeted that Nanticoke’s sacking was the result of a series of confrontations, including yelling at teammates and coaches during the Great Danes’ 16:10 loss to Stony Brook at Saturday.

Nanticoke led all scorers with four goals and an assist that would turn out to be his last game with the team. He was suspended for Albany’s previous game against UMass nationally (13-12 win) for his role in a bout that broke out on March 20 during an America East game in Binghamton.
Nanticoke, according to Inside Lacrosse of recruit # 1 in the class of 2017, played for the U19 team of the Iroquois Nationals in Vancouver in 2016 and also played for the senior team in the 2018 Men’s Lacrosse World Championship and for the indoor team in the World Indoor Lacrosse Championship . He was advertised as good as a newcomer to Albany and received All-American honors in 2018 with 50 goals and 32 assists. As the second student in 2019, he drew attention when he was suspended and then reinstated via an Instagram post tagging a stick-stringing company that questions whether the job violates the amateur rules of the NCAA violates.
Nanticoke failed to report the following fall to Albany, but returned in time to play in five games (19 goals, eight assists) last spring. He shuttled between midfield and attack before the NCAA ended the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 6-foot-1,230-pound senior with remarkable body control and sensational stick skills appeared to be on the upswing this spring and returning to his highlights this season before news of his layoff broke on Wednesday.
« I have nothing but love for this program, » said Nanticoke in a statement he tweeted on Wednesday calling it a « group decision. »
