Ford Australia has released a teaser video of a limited edition Ranger on its social media channels less than 24 hours after the Ford Ranger Tremor was unveiled in the US.
The Ford Ranger Tremor is a effectively a ‘Raptor Junior’ edition; it gets Fox shocks and 33-inch BF Goodrich K02 off-road tyres on 17-inch rims, but maintains the leaf spring rear end and a higher towing capacity.
Ford Australia isn’t giving away any clues – other than these shadowy images we grabbed from the short video – but it appears a similar model designed to fill the gap between the Ranger XLT and Ranger Raptor may not be far away from local showrooms.
The Ford Australia teaser video shows the same unique side steps, tyres, and auxiliary console featured in the US Tremor, but the Australian version also appears to get a tucked-away tow bar hitch as per the Raptor, rather than the standard hitch which impedes ground clearance.
The Ranger Raptor has been a huge success for Ford Australia but many customers have opted for other models due to its 2500kg towing capacity, versus 3500kg on standard Ranger models.
Ford Australia declined to elaborate on what the limited edition for the local market might include, or when it will be unveiled.
However, given the teaser image has been released, more information should not be too far away.
The Ford Ranger continues to sell well in Australia even though it is now one of the oldest utes in the segment.
This generation was introduced in 2011, however numerous updates throughout the model cycle have kept the Ranger ahead of the competition.
An all-new Ford Ranger is expected some time in late 2021 or early 2022. There has been unconfirmed speculation the next-generation Ranger will be available with a choice of 2.0-litre twin turbo diesel power and a 3.0 turbo diesel V6.
In the meantime, US fans of the Ford Ranger will soon be able to order a Tremor edition, with Fox shocks, off-road tyres, sports seats, and an auxiliary switch console on top of the dash.
The Ford Tremor in the US also gets some styling upgrades such as a unique grille, new heavy-duty side steps, tow hooks and decals.
CarAdvice will bring you more information about the new limited edition Ford Ranger for Australia as it comes to hand.
