CBBC star Archie Lyndhurst, son of Only Fools and Horses actor Nicholas Lyndhurst, has died at the age of 19 from a short illness

In a statement, Nicholas said he and his wife Lucy were « deeply distressed and respectfully requesting confidentiality »

Cheryl Taylor, Head of Content at CBBC, said he was « such a talented young actor », adding: « We are all devastated at BBC Children’s »

She added: « He will be sadly missed by all of us and our deepest condolences go to his family and friends at this time »

Archie started his acting career at Sylvia Young Drama School at the age of 10 In 2013, his father Nicholas told the BBC that his son inherited the ‘acting gene’

Archie appeared in So Awkward, a sitcom following the lives of a group of friends in high school, starting with his series debut in 2015

Channel X North, the independent production company that produces So Awkward, said it was « deeply shocked and saddened » by the news

« He was an incredibly talented artist and his contribution to So Awkward, on and off screen, will not be forgotten, » he said in a statement.

« Besides being hilarious, he was a generous and generous young man with whom we had the honor to work for seven years on the show

John Challis, who played Aubrey « Boycie » Boyce in Only Fools, said Archie’s death was « the saddest news of all »

He said Archie was « just starting her acting career » and his « heart ached for Nick and Lucy »

Actress Sue Holderness, who played Boycie’s wife Marlene on the show, said the news was « too sad, » adding: « My heart goes out to her mom and dad and everyone those who knew him « 

Samuel Small, who appeared with Archie in So Awkward and also in a Game of Thrones episode in 2014, posted a lengthy Instagram tribute to his « brother » and « best friend »

« I still can’t understand how successful you are », he wrote « You still had so much life to live and I would give anything to keep you living it

« I wish you all knew Archie how we knew him, » he continued « I have never met someone so full of life [who] touched your heart of so many people

« I still can’t find the words that do him justice and show how beautiful he was »

Archie’s other roles included recurring appearances as the young incarnation of comedian Jack Whitehall on various TV shows

These included the BBC sitcom Three Bad Education, in which he was seen as a younger version of the character of Whitehall’s Alfie Wickers
