World news – AU – As it happened: Saints make finals for the first time since 2011

It's virtually an elimination final - more than one week early. The stakes are very high for St Kilda who know they'll secure a finals spot with victory over GWS.

St Kilda win, and they’re in (it would be their first finals series since 2011).

The Giants need to win to make it, but they also need the Bulldogs to lose and Melbourne, and to make up percentage.

They have absolutely smashed the Giants. 12.10.82 to 3.12.30. No goals for GWS in the second half.

Emphatically, belatedly and finally they play finals. It will be their first appearance in the finals since 2011.

Their off-season recruiting was fantastic, while GWS’ off-season after a meek grand final loss obviously wasn’t good enough, nor was their season. Inexplicably, with their talent, they miss the finals.

That will be an interesting story to dissect. But tonight should be about the Saints. What a joy for their fans back in Melbourne in lockdown.

Jack Steele waltzes through a forward 50 stoppage and dribbles through a goal. GWS have given up and the Saints are in party mode.

Jack Lonie has another one. Again, it comes after he crumbs a ball that came off a contest made by Max King. He has competed so well tonight.

It’s a drubbing now for the Giants. The season finishing like most of it has been – very, very poorly. King is sensational by the way, even when making a contest he is impressive.

It was the 2011 elimination final and it was played at Docklands, then the Telstra Dome (from memory?).

Goddard and Schneider kicked two for the Saints and Riewoldt kicked one. Dal Santo had 33 touches and Clinton Jones 31. Jack Steven was playing his 30th game.

Ryder kicks one quickly from the resulting centre bounce. GWS look dispirited to start this term.

Williams is caught in a tackle and Ryder gets the loose ball and kicks one off the ground.

This was a nice moment at 3QT by the way. It was also very insightful. Have a listen:
