Beachgoers who appear to be flouting Victoria’s strict COVID -19 restrictions by packing on Melbourne beaches have been warned they are ‘not allowed’ to ‘risk everything’

Victoria Premier Dan Andrews has called on the Melburnians to hold out « a few more weeks » by expressing frustration with rule breakers endangering the state’s hard work, saying « no one is has the right « to act illegally

This comes as the state recorded eight new cases and three deaths in the 24 hours leading up to Saturday morning

M Andrews said he understood people were increasingly frustrated with lockdown restrictions, but the Victorians were risking what could be a better 2021 if they didn’t « hold » for a few more weeks.

« It is important that no one does anything by October 19 to revamp all that the Victorians have done and sacrificed over the past few months, » said Mr. Andrews

« If we don’t beat this second wave properly, if we don’t see it through for a few more weeks, then 2021 won’t be any different and won’t be better than 2020

« I don’t want this Everyone wants it to be done right We can’t let frustration get the best of us »

During his daily press conference on Saturday, Mr. Andrews said if 2021 was to be any different from 2020, people had to ‘stay the course’

« The scenes on the beaches at night are unacceptable No one has the right to break the rules and jeopardize everything decent and law-abiding Victorians have done, » said M Andrews

« Let’s do all we can to follow the rules, to beat this second wave, to see this and find normal COVID for Christmas and summer »

Dr Sutton said he was « angry » at the St Kilda scenes which he said was insulting to the people who had worked so hard to stop the spread

« It is an insult to all those who have put in efforts for months and months, for some people to put all our gains at risk, » he said

Dr Sutton has drawn attention to the second wave gripping Europe right now, sending countries back into lockdown

« Europe will wear masks for … three years We may move to a point where we don’t have to wear a mask all the time, » he said

« We are not there yet, but we are close We are heading in a very different – albeit fragile – direction towards Europe

« For every business that does tough things in St Kilda, for every family that hasn’t seen a loved one in months – come home, » he tweeted

With the temperature set to reach 28 degrees on Saturday, additional police officers will ensure COVID-19 rules are enforced

The second stage of Melbourne’s COVID-normal plan comes less than a week, which allowed people to spend two hours outside a day
