Orange fall decor is a must-have this time of year, but it can be difficult to create if you’re not familiar with pumpkin carving

Fortunately, social media is full of ideas on how you can brighten up your pumpkin – with minimal effort

From using cookie cutters to punch holes in the skin, to whipping up pumpkin flesh using a whisk and a drill, there are many proven hacks out there, reports the MEN

If you’re looking for other useful tips and tricks or alternatives to carving, here’s a roundup of the best pumpkin hacks to help you prepare for Halloween 2020:

« Use a jigsaw to cut one all the way down NOT up – you’ll thank me later

« Empty the guts and start drawing The red dry erase marker is so easy to clean after sculpting or even if you make a mistake while drawing

« Then simply cut with a jigsaw – light pressure on the blade will go straight in

« You don’t need to run it full speed – it will cut the pumpkin like it’s nothing

« If you go for a real classic candle – pour some cinnamon into your pumpkin [pour on the inside of your pumpkin before inserting the candle]

TikTok user @barbaramajeski shared his best tip on how to carve a pumpkin using cookie cutters

She then advises using a mallet or meat tenderizer to carefully drive the cookie cutter into the side of the pumpkin

She adds: « I will use the other side of the mallet to press the carved pumpkin all the way through the skin

« And then I’ll shine it with a little clear shine, light some tealights and add it to my front door decoration »

Cookie cutters in the UK are relatively inexpensive to buy and are available for purchase online and in supermarkets, thrift stores and bakeries

Prices vary from store to store, but you should be able to get your hands on some for around £ 5

TikTok user @squishyvangogh shared a creative way to upgrade a pumpkin decoration using a «  lace up  » method

In the video, she prepares her pumpkin by removing the flesh and using a knife to cut out the basic shapes of the eyes and mouth

She then traces the edge of the cut shapes with small holes – you can use a wooden or metal skewer if you want to try this trick at home

Once all the holes have been drilled, she takes pieces of string and lace them all to create a Nightmare Before Christmas stitch effect

If you want to try something other than carving this year, you can always keep your whole pumpkin and give it a lick of paint

In a post shared with followers on Instagram, user @weneedmoreglitter wrote: “This one is a family favorite and we look forward to it every year!

« Just grab some golf t-shirts and a hammer and have fun ramming, pushing and hammering t-shirts into your pumpkin!

« Kids love using real tools and it’s a fun way to get involved if they’re not quite ready to help carve with knives
