Sony has officially detailed firmware update 800 for the PS4 Available for download now, 800 – unlike many recent incremental updates – actually brings a few new features
The bigger one is the PS4’s Party screen, which will now better integrate Messages into the party UI The same groups of people you have will be shared between the two This also means that PS4 players will be able to send messages and group chat with their friends on PS5 And, if you want to mute your mic with just one click, the PS4 Quick Menu now offers that option.
Sony is also updating the PS4’s two-factor authentication service to support third-party authentication apps This will spill over to the web and mobile as well
800 is not just about adding new features, it prevents users from creating or accessing events Likewise, PS4 players will no longer be able to create new private communities under the Community app on PS4 Communities existing ones will remain however
Along with the current firmware, the PlayStation Remote Play app on PC and mobile will also be updated On the one hand, it will have the new name of PS Remote Play The app will support PS5 remote play at launch from the console, but you will need to log in from the console to use the feature
800 has been in beta testing for months, so it’s good to finally see it in the wild
