A woman has drowned at an unpatrolled beach south of Coolum on the Sunshine Coast this morning.
Emergency services responded to Jubilee Esplanade at 7:15am after surfers managed to pull the person to shore.
Police say the 34-year-old woman from Toowoomba was swimming with her 11-year-old daughter at First Bay when the pair were dragged out to sea.
The daughter managed to make it back to shore but the woman was found a short time later floating in the water.
It is believed the woman and her family were visiting the region for school holidays and have a holiday house at Point Arkwright.
Sergeant Ben Cox from Coolum Police said it was a tragic start to the school holidays.
« The surfers and paramedics worked on her for about half an hour, but sadly couldn’t save her, » Sergeant Cox said.
« Her sister was standing on rocks nearby but hadn’t realised that she’d been dragged out to sea. It’s tragic. »
