Ian Wright believes Man Utd made a « strange » decision this summer to sign Edinson Cavani when they should have bought Erling Haaland or Jadon Sancho.
Cavani has taken a blow for the Red Devils in the past few weeks and scored a brace in a 3-2 comeback win over Southampton at the weekend.
Borussia Dortmund’s winger Sancho was strongly linked to a move to Man Utd in the summer, while Haaland was also linked to the Bundesliga giants prior to his move.
Man Utd brought Cavani on a day off to the deadline and Wright believes the Red Devils continue to fill in the gaps rather than investing in long-term supplements.
« If you look back, you can go all the way back to Henrik Larsson. They bring that kind of underdog forward just to fill in the gaps, « the former Arsenal forward told the Kelly & Wrighty Show.
« You have Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Radamel Falcao, now they even have Ighalo and Cavani. When will you get it? Because they have Cavani, but why didn’t they get Erling Haaland? Or Jadon Sancho?

Cavani was impressive from the bench against Southampton and Solskjaer was full of praise for the Uruguayan after the game.
He said, « He’s a number nine who wants to be between the posts, he’s always on the move, he wants to stand in front of you and I’m very happy with him.
“On the training ground, in the locker room and during meals, how meticulous he is. He knows what he wants to eat, how much he wants to relax – everything!
“It was a great move and the timing is fantastic. His hunger for the end of things is key to being a center forward. Sometimes it hurts and sometimes it doesn’t, but you have to be in there to score. ”
The Frenchman has started ten games in all competitions for the Red Devils this season.
Wright has run out of patience with an Arsenal star and says it’s time to try something different.
