A hat trick by Sam Kerr in the first half gave Chelsea a comfortable 6-0 win over Birmingham City in Kingsmeadow.

Fran Kirby threw in two goals and an assist for the Blues. In a team effort, the team was able to consolidate its position at the top of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League. Key moments
After high intensity and a physical start to the game, Chelsea began to gain a foothold after the first fifteen minutes but struggled to break a resilient Birmingham defense.

The hosts were finally rewarded for their hard work when Kerr followed from a distance, hitting the ball first, to shoot it in behind the helpless Hannah Hampton.

Chelsea scored again in the first half of added time. Pernille Harder’s header hit the crossbar after a clever cross from Jonna Andersson. However, Kerr was there for her second to double the Blues lead.

Things got even better for Kerr before the break as she completed her hat trick with an imposing header after a superb free-kick from Erin Cuthbert.

The second half started out similarly to the first, and after a prolonged period of Chelsea domination, the home side finally managed to score their fourth goal through Kirby hitting Beth England’s pass to drive the ball into the bottom corner.

It was five for Chelsea after Guro riding found himself in the box to hit Kirby’s pass. The substitute player rounded off a great team goal by the hosts with a neat finish.

A sparkling run from Kirby, accompanied by a curving end of the long post, earned her second place in the final moments of the game and rounded off a dominant performance on Emma Hayes’ side.

In that case, maybe it just worked around Sam Kerr, but Chelsea’s fifth goal was the one that stood out the most at Kingsmeadow.

It was almost impossible to keep an eye on the movement of the Blues players as they marched into the visitors’ box. Riding had the simple task of returning home to complete the perfect team move for the league leaders.

Chelsea manager Emma Hayes said: “I think it was an accomplishment that the entire squad contributed to, and if you play as many games as we do, they all have to be on the same level.
« This is the first game this season where I thought that no matter who I use there would be no drop in standards anywhere. For that. »
Reason it was a complete achievement.  »
« The confidence in [Sam Kerr’s] game is now better than I’ve ever seen it. It delivers the fatal blow whenever the team needs it.
that is what is so extraordinary. These games can be tricky if you don’t score the first goal early enough but they pounce at the right moment
to get us to the top
« To win the title we have to win every game and that’s always a challenge given our schedule. I have admiration for the players to make sure the levels never drop. »
« [Sam] is the ultimate team player, she will do anything for the team, she will sacrifice herself if necessary. She doesn’t care
as long as there is harmony, spirit and clash.  »
