While the college football schedule continues to be impacted by postponements and cancellations due to COVID-19, the week 13 list is relatively jam-packed with important games. There will be three top 25 showdowns on Friday with two matchups between ranked teams, one that could determine a spot in the Big 12 championship game and one that will go a long way in helping the power of one of the top teams in the Nation to prove.

No.. 13 Iowa State and No.. 17 Texas will meet in a crucial Big 12 battle, while No.. 2 Notre Dame heads to Chapel Hill for an ACC showdown with No.. 19 North Carolina. The Irish must keep winning to keep their ACC title and college football playoff hopes alive. Plus no. 9 Oregon will take on the State of Oregon in the rivalry formerly known as the « Civil War » when the two set off from Corvallis that evening. The Ducks will have to collect some style points if they want to get into the playoffs on a limited schedule this year.

These are the marquee games on the schedule, and while winning is all that matters to the overall standings, we care about whether these teams cover their spreads. Every week is a clean slate, especially in 2020. Still, it’s hard not to notice what the Cyclones have done to the state of Kansas, however limited the wildcats may be right now. While Iowa State is a bit of an underdog, it seems like the better team right now. But neither team should have trouble bringing their own juice to a game with a lot of mutual significance. If Texas can force Iowa State out of its comfort zone and play from behind, it can win it. But it was difficult to throw the state of Iowa off center. Selection: Iowa State 1. 5 – Ben Kercheval

This is a huge spread for Iowa, and it’s hard to know if to trust the Hawkeyes this season as they beat many suppressed programs. Perhaps losing a point to Northwestern in the first week is a better indication of what this 2020 program is about. It came as a surprise the Hawkeyes were listed 3-2 in the first College Football Playoff leaderboard, but they won three games with an average profit margin of 30 points. Iowa will likely dominate Nebraska up front. As long as that stays under two touchdowns, I’d put a flyer on the Hawkeyes. Selection: Iowa -13 – Adam Silverstein

When this game loosens up a bit and the tar heels can turn it into a shootout, I love their chances of covering up with the possibility of a total surprise. Put simply, when the game becomes a back and forth affair, which quarterback do you trust to direct touchdown drives in the fourth quarter? Sam Howell has been one of the top quarterbacks in college football for the past two years, and the ability to generate explosive games in passing means no head start is guaranteed. Even if Howell steps in the back door with an angry, belated indictment that falls short by 3-4 points (another likely scenario), we’re still taking cover with that cheap number. This is a huge spread for a rivalry game, especially given Oregon’s late fighting with UCLA last week. Meanwhile, the state of Oregon has its last two covered (including a similar two-touchdown margin vs.. . Washington) and defeated California last week. Not a huge fan of this game and would really prefer it at 15. It can hit that number before kick-off as is trending. Selection: Oregon State 14 – Adam Silverstein
