Dell Technologies Inc It has set its sights on becoming a premier provider of XaScale advanced multi-cloud infrastructure services to its enterprise clients, and will work with Fedex Corp and the Switch Inc data center co-location service provider to achieve this goal

Terminal infrastructure has become important because it makes it possible to process data produced by mobile devices and IoT devices close to its source, rather than sending it over long paths to central data centers or the cloud The advantage of processing data closer to the edge of the network is that it can be analyzed Faster, which means organizations can make decisions based on this analysis in real time using technologies like 5G, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.

Dell today said it partnered with FedEx and Switch to provide the computing, storage and connectivity resources needed to customers who want to process their data at the edge of the network, in order to boost the performance of latency-sensitive applications.

Dell said it wants to create an indefinite number of technology centers across the United States capable of supporting exascale multicloud and hybrid environments for edge processing. The hubs will be built using a combination of Dell’s cloud infrastructure and advanced Switch data center technology, and will be put in place. Strategically at FedEx Secure Sites around the US in order to provide national coverage

The Switch will provide its own Switch MOD 15 Class 4 EDGE data center technology to ensure 100% uptime at every edge site, while Dell will provide the bulk of the hardware needed, including servers, storage, networks, and hyperconnected infrastructure, plus services Administration and Support For FedEx, it will provide the actual real estate to host the technology centers along with a portion of the investment capital needed to fund the endeavor

FedEx will also be the first consumer of exascale’s advanced multicloud infrastructure services. This experience will enable it to provide what it calls « enterprise end-user technical expertise » to customers, and the company said its deployments will provide low-latency access to high-density computing from FedEx sites. / p>

Construction Research analyst Holger Muller told SiliconANGLE that FedEx involvement is essential because geographic proximity in advanced computing is just as important as the compact data center expertise provided by the Switch and the hardware that Dell excels in. Nevertheless, FedEx provides a good starting point with its broad geographic coverage. , Mueller noted that their infrastructure usually tends to be located where land costs are low and where logistics are good, which means it is still far from population centers.

“The prize in the battle for advanced data center locations is as close as possible to where data is made, and this usually means getting close to people,” Muller said. “So retailers, banks and convenience chains will be the real prize in the near future as partners for advanced data centers.” / p>

Dell has already been enabling advanced computing for some time. Last year the company announced its partnership with AT&T Inc. in a separate initiative aimed at building open-source 5G networks that advanced computing centers will rely on

John Royce, chief technology officer at Dell Technologies, said his company sees a huge opportunity in evolving infrastructure, as organizations increasingly rely on near-real-time communication with the data that is generated at their source.

“By working with FedEx and Switch, we can create a more on-premises cloud environment, providing customers with faster access to their workloads and data for more flexibility and speed,” Roese said
