Residents living in a Skaha apartment building are homeless after a fire ravaged the top floor of their house at around 4 a.m. Tuesday morning
The fire at a three-story condo complex on Elm Avenue and Parkview Street has since been extinguished Penticton Fire Department Captain Mike Wade said there were several things working against the teams in their efforts to put out the fire
« It’s a full timbre build, so it tends to go up (in flames) a bit faster, » Wade said
« We also had a really good Southwind fueling the fire when we also got to the scene The only thing that was great about this building was that they had a solid partition wall running from south to north which had helped and prevented the east side of the building from being involved in the fire »
Photos taken by residents and neighbors show that the entire top floor of the building was engulfed in flames Wade said the Penticton Fire Department threw everything they could on the fire but that ‘he was unable to save most of the west side of the building
The scene remains blocked to traffic this morning Emergency services also remain and a bus has taken residents to a nearby shelter
The cause of the fire is not known at the moment. It is also not known if someone was injured and if all are counted
Henry issued a public health order limiting private gatherings to one household, plus a group of « Safe Six » only
