Friday night the stars of « Hocus Pocus » reunite for virtual charity benefit, but will the Sanderson sisters ever return for a real sequel?

« Hocus Pocus 2 » will be directed by Adam Shankman, Variety reported earlier this year, but since our March report, no new developments have come up for the buzzing sequel, which has been in the works for some time at the Disney streaming service
When Shankman came aboard « Hocus Pocus 2, » the original stars – Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy – were not keen on the sequel, although sources at the time said that Disney was hoping the trio would be involved to some extent, ideally reprising their roles, rather than completely rebooting the 1993 film
The original ‘Hocus Pocus’, which made its box office debut in 1993 but became a cult hit, was directed by Kenny Ortega, the mastermind behind ‘High School Musical’, ‘The Descendants’ from Disney and Netflix’s new musical series, « Julie and the Ghosts »
Speaking to Variety in an interview conducted earlier this year, Ortega says he can’t help but smile as he sees his projects find new generations of viewers, and therefore, he supports all reboots and sequels.

When asked if he knew more about the sequel to « Hocus Pocus » – to which he is in no way attached – Ortega says he was not told of anything except the fact that it’s in development at Disney Plus with Shankman directing
« I hope a sequel involves all three women in a major capacity, » he tells Variety
