Mike Weir shot a stunning 9-under 63 on his 18 holes of the day to take a three-stroke lead over Phil Mickelson in the final round of the Dominion Energy Charity Classic Saturday in Richmond, Va.

Weir, from Bright’s Grove, is 13 years younger after a 36-hole day His three-time lead is the largest 36-hole lead in tournament history (Bernhard Langer, 2017)

The first round was moved to Saturday after more than an inch of rain fell on the Country Club of Virginia golf course on Thursday and Friday The game started at 7:30 am ET and concluded at 6:40 pm, leaving two holes to play in the second round The second round will resume on Sunday at 8:45 am and the final round will start at 10:10 am

Weir’s 63 was the low round of the second round after shooting an opening 68 It was his career record on the Champions Tour

« I’m very happy with the way I played today, » Weir said. « My state of mind for today knowing we were 36, I wanted to have a good pace for the day because there are so many holes If you have a good rhythm you can kinda ride it and I did, I had a good rhythm « 

Mickelson (10 under) shot 68 and 66, with his second 18 holes tied for the second lowest of the second round of the day

South African Retief Goosen and Brandt Jobe each shot at 68 and 68 to sit tied for third place at 8 under, five shots behind German Weir Langer (67, 70) and Wes Short Jr (69 , 68) are tied for fifth at 7 under

Weir, making his eighth start on the Champions Tour, followed his 68 by scoring a second round without a bogey against nine birdies

Mickelson had a chaotic first round, carding six birdies, one eagle but four bogeys He settled into the second, registering seven birdies against a single bogey
