The NBA Philippines revealed on Wednesday that 2019 Rookie of the Year Doncic has become one of the country’s most popular players in his second year in the league
« Our No. One of the best-selling jerseys in the Philippines was Luka Doncic, » NBA Asia general manager Scott Levy said yesterday in a conference call with reporters.
« I know LeBron is popular, but Luka is also popular, as is Zion (Williamson), and LeBron has a nice running mate at Anthony Davis, and he’s also become very popular, » he added.
James is at No 2, followed by Leonard Davis, in his first season with the Lakers, arrives at No 4 while New Orleans rookie Williamson completes the top 5
The Lakers remain the most popular team in the Philippines, followed by the Mavericks, Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets and LA Clippers
Globally, James remains the # 1 jersey seller among NBA players as he enters his 17th season in the league
But having young stars like Doncic and Williamson has an immediate impact bodes well for the future of the league, Levy said
« We are really lucky to have all these amazing athletes out there, and they continue to join the league every year. We are currently in a very healthy state for talent on the pitch, » he said.
Aside from Doncic and Williamson, Levy also touted the growing popularity of Atlanta goalie Trae Young and Memphis goalie Ja Morant, who was the 2020 NBA Rookie of the Year after a sensational season for the Grizzlies
« There are players who will come in a few months when we do the draft that people are just as eager to see to play, » he added.
