Two new coronavirus outbreaks have been declared in Toronto hospitals in recent days, with 29 patients and staff confirmed to be infected

Unity Health spokeswoman Robyn Cox told St Joseph’s health center now has 16 patients on treatment for COVID-19, but seven of them likely contracted their infections in hospital. p>

The infections are linked to four units within the hospital establishment: the 2L medicine unit, the 3M unit, the 2E unit and the 4E unit

« We will be implementing widespread testing on staff and patients in the coming days, » Cox said, along with new safety measures for staff working in clinical areas

University Health Network says three patients and six staff at Toronto Western Hospital have tested positive for COVID-19 since October 15

The outbreak occurred in two units of the general internal medicine department – units 8A and 8B – in the hospital’s Fell ward

A COVID-19 outbreak is defined in Ontario as two cases detected in any collective setting within 14 days that these cases could have been contracted in the setting
