Friends star Jane Sibbett has revealed she faced huge reactions from viewers for playing lesbian character Carol Willick in the hit sitcom

Jane’s character was the ex-wife of Ross Geller – played by David Schwimmer – who decided to divorce after realizing she was a lesbian

She then fell in love with Susan while pregnant with Ross’ child

But despite appearing in 15 episodes, it seems not everyone was happy with Jane’s character on the hit American sitcom

Speaking with Now To Love: « It became evident not long after [the show’s premiere] that there was suddenly a responsibility to be able to stand up against all the people who said it was wrong, including my own dad who had a really tough time with it « 

Although she admitted that the support she received from the LGBTQ community was « amazing », Jane said she felt a huge responsibility to carry the message that love is love to those who are oppose

She recalled, « I was going to hang out with people on talk shows in America, who were like, you know, this and this and that’s why you shouldn’t be doing that »

She added: « I would have to break things down for them And I felt it was really important for me to be super clear; love is the most important, of all the things we could do , love is the most important way forward for anyone

It comes as Jane revealed that she was first debauched for the role of Jennifer Aniston in Rachel Green before filming began on the show

But she couldn’t take on the role because she was pregnant at the time

She told Comau News: « I was actually up for another character They wanted me to be one of the main six »

She added: « It was actually Rachel, but I usually don’t tell people because Jen There is no one who could have done it like Jen

« I asked them (the agents) if they had told the producers I was pregnant (at the time) and they said, ‘Oh no, we thought we would tell them later’And j ‘said:’ No, you have to tell them now ‘ »
