Triple Scott Crocker, Finlay Krask and Ethan Mitchell U-18 made their debut for Plymouth Argyle in a 3–1 win over Newport County in Home Park.

They all played as second-half substitutes for Pilgrims while another academic producer, 16-year-old defender Brandon Bursall, played the whole match

Under the leadership of football director Neil Deusnepp, Argyle is increasingly focused on setting up the academy in League One club

Team debuts in Crcoker, Craske and Mitchell, as well as Pursall’s continued progression, are examples of youth development work

Dewsnip told Plymouth Live: « It’s another sign that our manager (Ryan Lowe) is ready to give young players a chance

“Tonight was just perfect. Unfortunately, we were unable to qualify for the next stage (of the EFL Cup), as we already knew.

« But I think Ryan would have supported giving them the opportunity, whatever the circumstances.

 »

« Let’s not forget, too, that Brandon started out. It’s something that we want to develop in the soccer club so it’s really important to us

“We give them a chance, they took it tonight I think, and I hope, they come home a hero sometimes for another chance”

A fast forward Crocker signed for Argyle in 2019 having previously played locally for Elburton Villa, Plymstock United, and Marine Academy Plymouth

He had a chance to replace Frank Noble in the lead against Newport in the 67th minute.

Craske, a midfielder, was an unused substitute when Argyle lost 3-2 to Norwich City Under-21s at the EFL Cup at Home Park in September

He came off the bench to replace Connor Grant in the 76th minute against Newport.

Craske and Crocker are both ex-students at Ivybridge Community College, while Mitchell only signed Argyle in September

Mitchell was the third and last substitute for Argyle against Newport, replacing Niall Canavan in the 79th minute

Dewsnip continued: “We are really serious about our young players. We want them to have a chance but it is also important that they be good enough.

“So with Darren (Y) and everyone at the Academy, they’re all working hard to improve the level of young players we have.

“I’d just like to reiterate that we’re really fortunate to have a manager who has the courage to put them in it”

Crocker, Krasick and Mitchell – along with Bursal – all played for Argyle in the first round of the FA Youth Cup in overtime that Exeter City lost at Home Park last Wednesday.

“Scott and Ethan have been dazzled at youth matches, whether it’s I’m watching their progress or whether Ryan shows up from time to time to watch

“We are all very keen and interested. We want the young local talent to have a chance to shine in Argyll”

Another evidence of Lowe’s commitment to giving Al-Shabab the opportunity to succeed at the first-team level is goalkeeper Mike Cooper and striker Luke Givkot.
