Fred West never had to stand trial He committed suicide in his cell at HM Birmingham prison on January 1, 1995, when he and his wife Rose were jointly charged with nine murders, and he with three more murders

In November 1995, Rose was convicted of ten murders and sentenced to ten and life imprisonment – meaning she would have to spend the rest of her life behind bars
