As England appears to be heading towards a nationwide lockdown, there could be more problems for Johnson’s senior adviser accused of breaking the rules in first round of national Covid restrictions

It comes as Durham County Council has pledged to find a way to force government councilor Dominic Cummings to pay his tax bill

Councilor Simon Henig responds to public outcry over Cummings tax cases exposed

Henig said: « It seems that anyone who works for the Prime Minister is exempt from the rules that apply to the rest of us »

Dominic Cummings caught the UK’s attention when he drove his family from London to County Durham, while suffering from symptoms of Covid

He was then seen driving in the nearby town of Barnard Castle He later explained that it was to test his eyesight

At least three people have reported seeing Cummings at Barnard Castle, including Robin Lees, a retired chemistry professor, who alerted police to seeing Cummings and his family get into a car on a road on the south side of the Tees April 12

Police looked into the case and concluded that he may have broken the law.They chose not to amend or prosecute him, and he kept his job after tremendous pressure on him to resign

Lawyers acting for Nazir Afzal OBE, the former North West England Crown Attorney, have provided evidence that Cummings and his wife broke the law in several ways New witness statements and other documents have been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and the police

« The picture painted by the witnesses who came forward seems clear and coherent and is incompatible in important parts with the version given by Mr. Cummings, « he said

Lawyers for Afzal said there was evidence of six breaches of the health protection regulations for Mr. Cummings and three for Mrs. Wakefield

« He also concludes that the test [to lay charges] appears to be met with respect to an offense of diversion from the course of justice, which arose out of Mr. Cummings in the Downing Street Rose Garden on May 25, « Said

“As tens of thousands of families, including mine, struggled to mourn their loved ones, Mr. Cummings would have traveled the country without considering the consequences, ”said Afzal

« It is now up to the police and the CPS to decide how to get things done There is currently a feeling that the law is not applied in the same way and that the poorest, the most vulnerable and the least powerful of our citizens are those who suffer We will watch with great interest « 

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: « We have received the documents and they will be taken into consideration »
