World News – GB – BBC ‘refused to strictly delay Boris Johnson’s lockdown speech’

The BBC has rejected a government request to delay Strictly Come Dancing for Boris Johnson’s lockdown speech, it has been claimed

The Prime Minister was originally supposed to announce England’s second lockdown at 4 p.m. on Saturday, but this has been repeatedly pushed back

After Little Mix: The search was postponed, fans were strictly concerned that the delay would force the show to be pushed back from its 722h starting time, but that turned out not to be the case

Number 10 has made a ‘last minute appeal’ to the BBC to resume the Strictly show live to broadcast the address closer to 7 p.m., according to The Sun

« Strictly is an audience beast for the BBC, so they were loath to change the programming, » a source told The Sun

« No one was afraid of having a confrontation with them because Strictly is a priority for the channel

« Boris’s team asked if the press conference could be postponed beyond 7:00 p.m. but was sternly told that if it did it would be broadcast on the news channel. »

The source continued: « His team gave in and went on the air closer to the scheduled time of 630h

« It was a victory for the BBC as they had already removed Little Mix The Search and delaying the behemoth which is Strictly would have been chaos »

In the end, coverage of the press conference shifted to BBC News with Strictly starting a few minutes late The routine of professional Halloween-themed dancers was removed from the show as a result

On Saturday night HRVY and Maisie Smith were strictly at the top of the table while Bill Bailey also impressed

Former Labor politician Jacqui Smith and her professional dance partner Anton Du Beke became the first couple to break up in this series
