M Gration, 69, spent 42 years with the BBC and has featured Look North since 1982

Her last appearance on Look North will be Wednesday, October 21, and current co-host Amy Garcia will take over as lead presenter.

Born and raised in Bradford, Harry received an MBE for his broadcasting services in 2013 in recognition of his long career, which saw him become one of Yorkshire’s most beloved figures and a ‘broadcasting legend’

Speaking on his decision to leave Look North, cricketer mad Harry said: « For the past four decades it has been a privilege to meet the people of the county that I love

“I’ve worked with the best of the best and I’m leaving Look North in the good hands of Amy and the team, although I don’t know how Paul Hudson is going to do without checking his predictions! Seriously i will miss my good old homie

“I can’t wait to experience new broadcasting adventures and spend special moments with my family and a one-year-old!”

While working as a history teacher at Rodillian School, Leeds in the 1970s, Harry started filing match reports for the BBC before joining BBC Radio Leeds as a sports editor in 1978

He then commented on the Olympics and Paralympics and presented iconic shows such as Grandstand, Sportsnight and Match of the Day.

He covered nine Olympic Games for the BBC and won two Royal Television Society awards for his sports documentaries: « White Rose in Africa » ​​in 1992 and « Dickie Bird: A Rare Species » in 1997 He won the prestigious award for best RTS presenter twice

In addition to showcasing Look North, Harry undertook a plethora of charitable challenges for children in need and sport relief, including a 120-mile three-mile trek through Yorkshire in 2016 with meteorologist Paul Hudson, who saw his hometown visit
