World News – GB – Celtic vs Hibs – Live Updates

This is a big deal for both teams as the Hoops face a reborn rival desperate for a shock result in Glasgow

Goals from Callum McGregor, Albian Ajeti and Moi Elyounoussi delivered three essential points to boss Neil Lennon at Parkhead

Ajeti’s first-half injury worried the manager, but otherwise it was a perfect afternoon for the home side

McGregor’s opener was a blow to Jack Ross’s side after a brilliant start, drilling at home from afar to open the scoring

Kevin Nisbet proved a thorn alongside Shane Duffy throughout the first half, but could only watch a defensive failure from the Hibs on the other end allowing Ajeti to capture a rebound of Elyounoussi’s shot

The Norwegian came on after the break, capping a fine performance that puts Lennon’s side one point behind the Premiership leaders Rangers, having played one game less

It was the type of overall win many were clamoring for after lackluster midweek performance against Riga

Celtic were clinical in front of goal with Brown, Elyounoussi, Turnbull and especially Frimpong among several individual positives

The Hibs are technically good and well trained, but it was crucial to make their early opportunities count

Lennon’s side are now one point behind Premiership Rangers after playing one game less

A rare rest for McGregor and a rare appearance for Soro as we move into the final stages

The midfielder takes one for the team, stopping a Celtic attack but picking up a yellow card for his troubles

Three goals and three points for Celtic as Elyounoussi slips behind Marciano

Hibs had taken advantage of a spell that was again devoid of killer instinct and Celtic swept the other to show just that

A good run from the outside to the inside by Murphy catches Frimpong sleeping and Stevenson’s ball is good for picking the winger

Celtic put a foot down to stop him and the ball rolls nicely for Newell and he balloons

Stevenson’s experience helped manage Frimpong better this half, but there is still only one winner per race

A ball in the fairway frees the youngster, but his cross is cut at the near post

A period of possession for the Hibees and they work the ball from one side to the other

Murphy slams well inside and his cross heads for Newell but his shot is timid and loops harmlessly

Celtic exerted much more control over procedures and Hibs was unable to create any of the opportunities they threatened in the first half

Visitors better canceled Frimpong this half, but didn’t disturb their hosts the other way around

The midfielder lets go of a rough training from miles that Marciano is forced to feel

From the resulting turn the ball returns to Turbull and he throws a low first cross into the danger zone that Hibs is pretty much clear of

The Celtic captain appears in the box on a free kick and his low shot is well saved by Marciano

Well, hanging Doig is definitely a way to help him and that’s what Ross did

It was probably the right decision to protect the young full-back and he was replaced by Lewis Stevenson

For Celtic, Ryan Christie took a hit to help create the second goal and David Turnbull was introduced in his place

Jack Ross might feel a bit offended to score two goals as his team have done very little harm here

Ross must find a way to help Doig, who has been roasted several times by the exceptional Frimpong

Going forward, Shane Duffy doesn’t seem to like those bullets in side space, while Kevin Nisbet clearly does

Celtic are well placed to cover their injury but Ajeti is already proving to be a very useful acquisition

The Swiss is a wonderfully composed finisher with that invaluable talent of being in the right place at the right time

Hibs started off brilliantly and fashioned some early chances, but he lacked the killer touch his hosts have in abundance

McGregor’s first game was first class and Ajeti’s second clinic underscored the extremely narrow margin for visiting teams for error at Parkhead

Frimpong is rewarded for an excellent cover tackle on Doig by bringing the full weight of the Hibs man’s foot down onto his ankle

This is indeed the last act of the afternoon of Albian Ajeti replaced by Odsonne Edouard

The midfielder’s weaving run drags three Hibs players towards the ball and although he ended up stopping on his momentum, the ball broke towards Elyounoussi near the penalty spot

His shot is picked up by Marciano but Ajeti is there to score the rebound, with what appears to be his final contribution to the match

The Celtic man knows he’s got the back side kick and with another shoulder drop he’s gone and gone

He can’t find a man in the box this time around, but he’s causing all kinds of trouble

He has been Celtic’s main threat so far and youngster Josh Doig is struggling to deal with him

The young Dutchman makes his way past the full-back and chooses McGregor’s advance

He slips a ball behind but no one arrives for the cut-back and Hibs clears

Visitors have a problem on their left, however, and Doig needs a little help containing Frimpong

Newell’s Silky as he dribbles out of a tough spot in midfield and floats a ball behind for Nisbet’s hunter

The attacker pushes Duffy aside easily but the angle is too tight for his shot to find the target

Duffy misjudges a ball embedded in the fairway and this allows Nisbet to end up behind him

Nisbet looks up and chooses Doidge with a reduction, but the Welshman fails to hit the target, sweeping his shot over Barkas’ bar

Sharper play in Hibs’ midfield allows Nisbet to face Bitton on the edge of the box, but the attacker drags his effort largely after cutting inside

His team started with confidence but now face the daunting task of coming from behind to the Champions’ home
