Leeds Rhino legend Rob Burrow’s emotional motor neuron battle set to feature in BBC documentary
The rugby league icon, 38, was diagnosed with motor neuron disease in December of last year
Airing on BBC 2 at 7 p.m. on Monday 12 October, the documentary shows Rob and his family in their courageous fight
Relatives, friends and former teammates – including former teammates Kevin Sinfield and Barrie McDermott – also offer a moving glimpse of the remarkable man
Rob has been asked to raise awareness for research into the disease, including regular appearances on BBC Breakfast, after a meeting with former Scottish rugby legend Doddie Weir – who is also affected
Rob was diagnosed with the degenerative disease, for which there is no cure, just two years after ending his distinguished playing career by helping Leeds Rhinos to an eighth Super League Grand Final at fall 2017
As the disease takes its toll physically, Rob speaks in the documentary about his determination to live as normal a life as possible and explains how his rugby career prepared him for the challenge
