Police shut down a shisha cafe after breaking inside to find around 150 people crammed together just days after the place was hit with a £ 10,000 fine for Covid violations

Kasablanca in Birmingham was packed with customers around 1 a.m. on Saturday, despite the heavy penalty for breaching restrictions earlier this month, West Midlands police said

Dramatic video shows the moment when police had to break through the doors of the room with tools after being refused entry

Some can be heard sniggering and saying to the police: « We are social distancing » despite apparent evidence to the contrary

Earlier this month, the shisha lounge was fined when officers entered as staff lowered police shutters

Police say the site has been ordered to shut down and will need to prove it complies with the law before it can reopen

Birmingham and the West Midlands Combined Authority Area have been widely talked about for a move to very high alert Level 3 measures as early as the end of next week, as infection rates continue to rise increase

In another incident, the owner of a venue in Smethwick, West Midlands, was fined £ 10,000 after he organized a wedding celebration for more than 70 people

Viollet Salon received the fine on Thursday following an October 10 incident in which a large wedding of about 70 people took place despite coronavirus restrictions

Chief Superintendent Andy Beard slammed companies for ‘breaking the law, endangering lives and increasing the risk of infections as this deadly virus continues to spread’

« It’s a tough time for everyone, but we won’t be able to control this pandemic and return to a sense of normalcy if this continues to happen, » Beard said in a press release

«  We all need to help stop the spread of the coronavirus, and no one is above the law on this

‘The vast majority are following the guidelines and we would like to thank those people who make these personal sacrifices

‘We continue to work with local authorities in the region to fight this virus and help protect those who make a living from work and visit the West Midlands in the weeks and months to come’
