THOMAS Buffel believes the big game experience Rangers can boast of makes them big favorites for the Europa League clash against Liege tonight

The former Belgian star of the Ibrox squad believes that the continental games accumulated by Allan McGregor and Steven Davis – as well as the experience the rest of the squad have gained over the past two seasons – could prove to be the deciding factor

There will be a novelty factor for Rangers players to strut in front of supporters again – the club’s official communication that fan numbers would be capped at 3,750 at a stadium that holds 27,000

The home side have also been hit by a number of recent coronavirus cases, with five players missing for tonight’s game – including beloved young midfielder Nicolas Raskin

Moussa Sissako, Michel-Ange Balikwisha, Damjan Pavlovic and Abdoul Fessal Tapsoba are also excluded

Buffel told Radio Clyde: « You have midfielder Raskin is absent, he is absent, he is still a young player but he has done very well in recent weeks

« He [Raskin] is a true boxer boxer player who can infiltrate the box at the right times so it’s good news for the Rangers

« But on the other hand, two of the other players who came out are not very good, they are not regular starters

« In the last three Zinho Vanheusden was selected for the Belgium A team for the first time by Roberto Martinez

« He is only 19 years old and a guy who takes risks but he likes to penetrate the club of the opposing team

« We don’t see that often anymore, a central defender who really goes into the opponent’s space so it can be very hectic for the opponents when they see an opponent there

« They are a very young team with quality players Normally their best player is Mehdi Carcela [the 31 year old Belgian midfielder] but he is always looking for his best form

« The big advantage of the Rangers will probably have a lot more of this quality [experience in your team] On European nights you really need experience to get a good result

« The boost they got by winning at Pakrhead will also give them a lot of confidence to continue

« Last year I saw a lot of Rangers games, but this season, to be honest, the birth of my daughter and my family has been pretty busy

« I haven’t seen a lot of matches although I always check the scoresheet to see what the results are

« I am delighted they managed to win at Parkhead and lead the standings. Hopefully it will have a good season and they can take the championship back to Rangers »
