A huge golden statue of Alan Partridge has appeared in the middle of Norwich city center
Fans and independent sculptors Nick Dutton and Gavin Fulcher were behind the 11-foot statue, which appeared outside the Forum, where it will remain until Sunday, BBC reported
Alan Partridge is a character born in King’s Lynn, Norfolk, and played by actor Steve Coogan
A huge brass statue of Alan Partridge, designed and created by fans and sculptors Nick Dutton and Gavin Fulcher, has appeared outside the Forum in Norwich
The thread of the tweets read: « A STATEMENT Although absolutely not allowed, after taking advice I am happy that the attitude and position of the statue is correct
‘If the people of Norwich and the surrounding area want to commemorate me in sculpture, as long as it is rendered in low zinc alpha brass and not, say, duplex brass, I will give my consent and I will instruct my legal team to warm their daggers
‘If my statue can somehow serve as an ambassador for brass and encourage just ten children to pick up a brass instrument, that will be an optimistic end to an otherwise terrible year’

He said the statue was ‘just a little fun’ and said ‘meanwhile we could all do with a little bit of relief’
The pair designed the statue based on measurements taken by a friend who was « of similar size and build » to Coogan, who is 5ft 9in
The brass statue was created and designed over three years by the couple, between their professional commitments in the film industry
Alan Partridge made his debut in 1991 as a sports presenter on BBC Radio 4 On The Hour and Coogan announced this year that he would play the character again in an 18-episode series called From The Oasthouse: The Alan Partridge Podcast
M Dutton and M Fulcher denied the statue was a publicity stunt to promote Partridge’s latest podcast
A tweet on Alan Partridge’s Twitter account said that « the attitude and position of the statue is correct »
