Watford manager Vladimir Ivic faced the media on Monday lunchtime for his pre-match press conference ahead of Tuesday night’s game with Newport County.

The Hornets take on the League Two side in the third round of the Carabao Cup at Rodney Parade.

The winner of tie – which will come on the night and be decided by penalties if the game finishes all square after 90 minutes – will host Morecambe or Newcastle United.

It will be similar – we’ll use some players from the U23s. Some players will be coming back after the summer break because of injury or quarantine but others will play who played in previous games.

It’s too early because he’s only just started to work with us. He’s not ready to play.

He worked hard with us today (Monday) and will work day by day to reach a good, physical level and I hope he will be able to help us soon.

He is available to play so we’ll take a decision on him for the game or Saturday’s game. We will see.

Some of the players who are here and haven’t played until now will be available to play in the next games over the next month.

I expect some new players to come in in positions where we need and give us options.

I have five centre-backs who are working with me – Kabasele, Cathcart, Dawson, Sierralta and Wilmot – and a guy from the U23s so I am counting on them in this position.

For me it’s important not to have the players tomorrow – but yesterday. I want to work with players who know what the team asks of them and what they need to do.

I hope some of them will be with me as fast as possible because in some positions we need players to help us.

The intensity is strong and very high. The teams are very close to each other, I don’t see a big difference in the quality.

It depends on the moment, the physical condition of the players, those who can produce individual moments who can change games – it’s normal at the beginning of the Championship.

We didn’t have a lot of time to do pre-season how we wanted it. I’m sure other coaches have similar problems, due to the COVID situation, the players and there are a lot of unusual things that have happened.

Yes – we must respect every team. If you don’t respect, you cannot win. This is what I ask for from my players.

We need to show our quality to win the game. Our target is to win the game and get into the next round.

I expect my players to be serious from the first second to the last and to do their job in the best way.

The player is available to play. He is ready and will work in every training session.

He is a positive character with a positive mentality. I am satisfied with him and his ability and what he’s been doing with us.

He is one of the most talented players in England. Everybody knows a lot of things about him – he’s coming from a big club and from the academy.

He is a quality player with the ball, he knows how to move the ball fast and he thinks fast which is very important.

I’m sure he will help is in the future. He’s a good signing for the club. He’s another option in the midfield.
