City already knew they would be facing either Bournemouth or Premier League rivals Crystal Palace upon their entry in the competition, after the second and third round draws were held back-to-back earlier this month.

The match will be played at the Etihad Stadium on Thursday, September 24, with kick-off coming at 7:45pm.

After the drab game finished goalless, the Cherries earned their place in the next round aby winning a remarkable penalty shootout. The spot-kicks saw every player for both teams take at least one penalty, with both goalkeepers missing, before finally finishing 11-10.

The match will serve as a quick reunion with his old club for new City defender Nathan Ake, who was signed from Bournemouth this summer following their relegation to the Championship.

City have won the League Cup for the last three seasons and Pep Guardiola will no doubt want to ligt the trophy again after failing to claim any more pieces of silverware last season.

However, the tournament does give the Blues an early fixture headache as they could have to play five games in just 13 days.

City kick-off their Premier League campaign against Wolves on Monday, September 21, before facing Bournemouth three days later. They then come up against Leicester City at home on Sunday September 27 – their third fixture in six days.

And if they progress in the cup, their fourth round tie will take place in the following mid-week slot on September 29 or 30, before they are scheduled to face Leeds at Elland Road  in the league on October 3.

Assuming City reach the fourth round and the Leeds game is not moved, that could mean a gruelling fixture pile up before the October international break.
