World News – GB – Millwall, Derby players booed as they get on their knees for Black Lives Matter

Illwall and Derby players faced boos as they kneeled in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement as fans returned to the cave Saturday.

For the first time since March, up to 2. 000 supporters visit stadiums in Tier 2 locations, including London.

Teams across the country have shown their support for the anti-racism movement before kick-off since the soccer competition restarted in June.

The FA condemned the incident and issued a statement that read: « The FA supports all players and staff who wish to speak out against discrimination in a respectful manner, including knee harvesting, and strongly condemns the behavior of any spectator who actively participates speak out against such activities. « 

Derby striker Colim Kazim-Richards, who showed solidarity with the BLM message when others got on their knees, wrote on Twitter: « First of all, so proud of my team @dcfcofficial that the guys from us all stuck together and a massive result !! Everyone in the club has shopped and I’m sure we’ll see the results !!

But having to say this is a pain, but I’ll say it every fucking time, that’s why I stand and stand PROUD and I have to say that every single person that has dealt with @dcfcofficial makes me proud too made to wear this shirt with the guys today !!! Absolute shame. . « 

Kick It Out’s development manager Troy Townsend retweeted the footage of the incident, adding, « I was hoping the commenter might just highlight the fact because it’s clear to everyone to hear below other comments. « 

Kick It Out released a statement saying the incident showed why “… the players rightly continue to stand up against discrimination … we applaud the players for taking a stand and resisting the hatred shown today. ”

Former player Trevor Sinclair added, « The reality is that Millwall fans who exploit players who take a knee don’t surprise many !!! »

Adrian Durham, who covered the game live for talkSPORT, said on the air: « It is now common across the country for players to take their knees off their feet . . . and there’s been a negative reaction from Millwall fans – Impressive.

« This is not good at all, questions are sure to be asked about it, this is a shock. «  »

He added, « I can’t really believe what I just heard. It was all joy, it was all love, it was all laughter, everyone was happy, the fans are back in the new cave to support their team, and then the players take their knees and from 2000 on there is booing everywhere.

« I just wonder what someone like Mahlon Romeo, who plays for Millwall today as a right-back, I wonder how he felt when he heard that sound when he took his knee? »
