css-14iz86j-BoldText {font-weight: bold;} Over 3,000 complaints about comedian Nabil Abdulrashid’s routines on Britain’s Got Talent have been dismissed by media watchdog Ofcom

Ofcom said it took freedom of expression into account when deciding not to open an investigation

« The comedian’s satirical take on his life experiences as a black Muslim was probably in the public’s expectation, » a spokesperson said

Nearly 1,000 people complained about Abdulrashid’s performance in the semifinals on October 3, in which he joked about the police treatment of blacks and what « far-right guys angry « would think about someone joking about being black and muslim

« We just tell jokes about our lives because they matter – don’t we? » the Croydon comic said

2,200 others complained about the October 10 final, when he mocked the « snowflakes » that had stood in the way of the previous week’s routine

“They complained because we said black lives are important – thousands of complaints,” he said. “To be honest I’m shocked a lot of them know how to write

« They sent thousands of angry letters I hope if I bore them today they can make progress on the words »

He also joked that Winston Churchill was black, because « when was the last time you met a white man called Winston? » and « What color is his statue? Huh? »

And Abdulrashid suggested ITV should have had a different response to the 24,500 people who complained about the Black Lives Matter-inspired performance of the Diversity dance troupe in September

« I would have emailed anyone who complained It would just say, ‘We understand your viewers are offended But all viewers matter Let’s see how they like it then »

Responding to the number of complaints on Twitter, he joked: « I’m just happy I kept Ofcom employees from being fired I’m a hero and I have to be appreciated for my contribution to the economy @Ofcom you are welcome «
