A brand new winter market has been announced for Manchester city center this year, as official Christmas markets have been canceled
Winter Island will open on Freight Island – the socially remote location of the Mayfield Depot which opened earlier this year – with many festivities planned
Opening on November 12, the fully seated event will bring party food, drinks and entertainment to the area near Piccadilly, with events geared towards people of all ages
Some of the city’s best-known food and beverage operators will join existing traders
Current traders in the huge hall, including Baratxuri, Krum, Voodoo Ray’s and Madre, will all move inside the recently announced Ticket Hall
A new outpost for Ancoats The Jane Eyre cocktail bar, which will have a cozy bar above the lobby with a view of the site, will join them
Belzan Pasta Kitchen, Plant Grill, Forever Changes wine bar and a Rapha bike locker room will also open in the new interior space
Meanwhile, the outdoor space will be transformed into Winter Island, a fully heated outdoor event space with a 1,500 square foot tent set up under a 45 foot Christmas tree
Here you’ll find mulled wine and mulled cider, a traditional roast pork, an artisan cheese stall, a bratwurst sausage grill and a local chocolate factory, as well as a stall for the Great North Pie Co
Lightopia, the Heaton Park Lantern Festival, will set up a unique installation at the site, while the huge illuminated circular canopy will be lit by festive projections
The entertainment program will feature DJ sets by Hot Chip, Rhys from The Horrors and Huey Morgan, as well as a weekly Christmas cabaret and collaborations with festivals like We Out Here and Festival No 6
Amuse Bouche will continue with its Sunday Drag shows, while for families, there will be a big fanfare and a Disney song
A comedy night by Just the Tonic and local buyouts from Reform Radio and The Golden Lion are also on the program
Six people from the same household can book tickets for the indoor box office, while six from different households can book to sit outside on Winter Island Tickets are available at escapetofreightislandcom / reservations
Traders will move inside the ticket booth from October 30, with a full Winter Island experience opening on November 12
