Newcastle United’s first home game of the new Premier League season sees the visit of Brighton
The Magpies are hosting their first home game of the 2020-21 campaign looking to add to the win over West Ham last week.
If Steve Bruce guides his side to victory today – it’ll be the first time since 1997 that United have won their opening two games of a Premier League season.

Fraser makes the run across the field and picks the ball up – his cross is punched behind by Ryan.
United are caught out here – it takes Carroll to wipe out Lamptey to end the attack.
Trossard is allowed to just move forward until he sees the sight of goal – he fires it over but another warning sign for United.
Admittedly, ASM picked up a knock but even before then, it wasn’t the best performance from the Frenchman.
It looks like he’ll be okay but the wing-back needs the magic sponge after the challenge on Wilson.
The Magpies hit Brighton on the counter – Shelvey plays in Wilson, and Lamptey (yes , him again) slides in as the last man to win the ball.
It doesn’t work though and Lamptey leaves Hendrick for dead – it’s then a foot race between Lewis and the winger.
Alzate has a sight of goal here but Shelvey steps in and wins it, he’s then fouled.
First time ASM has managed to break free – driving forward from the half-way line. He plays in Wilson down the right who is into the box but Webster blocks the effort.
The service has to be better here but the cross from a free-kick is easily collected by goalkeeper Ryan.
Lamptey puts the ball in after ASM lets him go, Lewis left with two men here, the cross is met by Fernandez.
Brighton hit NUFC on the counter with the speed of Lamptey – boy is he quick. He’s in here but for a last-ditch intervention from Manquillo.
Just before Shelvey was booked – Lamptey had battled with ASM. Nothing wrong with the challenge, but ASM is limping.
Brighton get lucky with this one as the ball is put back towards the keeper, the defender and keeper get it mixed up and the clearance whacks Wilson straight in the face.
Maupay has made it two. VAR had to check it as Trossard was ruled offside down the right but VAR marked him on. The cross came in and Maupay placed it home from close range.
Maupay fires home and beats Darlow #nufc 1-0 down with less than four minutes on the clock.
Saint-Maximin with the challenge on Lamptey. The Frenchman slides in and does get a toe on the ball but does catch the winger first.
A couple of headed clearances in the first 60 seconds from NUFC as the defence clear the lines.
Can NUFC win the first two opening games of a Premier League season since 1997-98?
« Everyone knows what he brings – that aerial ability – but he was probably fortunate enough to not get a red card very early on at West Ham.
« The big thing about him is getting him fit. I don’t think all of a sudden that Andy Carroll is gonna play 40 games a season, it’s not going to happen, he’s getting towards the end of his career.
« I don’t think it’s going to change in terms of injuries. When he’s on the pitch, you’ve got to utilize him as well as you can because as we know, on his day, he’s unplayable.”
Speaking to Sky Sports: « It’s such a big club with great potential within the squad – and that was a factor in me joining here.
« I’m going to be open-minded, to embrace it and take on this next chapter and hit the ground running – it’s been a good start but hopefully it’s just one of many. «
